Spotify teamed up with Facebook for its social features. Personally I would have voted for a partnership with Last.fm, the mother of all social music sites.
Ok, Spotify can scrobble to your Last.fm profile but one thing you can’t do is use the Last.fm “love handle” from the Spotify client. This love feature is vital for your Last.fm profile and subsequently the recommendations.
I just recently came across two applications that can do the trick I have been wanting for so long.
Lastify (Mac OS only)
If you use Spotify on Mac OS you can try Lastify to add a Love Button. I don’t have a Mac, so I haven’t been able to experiment with it. If there is anyone there who uses Lastify let me know if it is as good as it looks.
Spotify Last.FM Buttons (Windows)
PC-users can give this Spotify add on a try. I have to warn you. It’s not easy, but I managed to get it working on my Windows 7 machine.
Go to http://www.srdl18217.myby.co.uk/lastfm/SpotifyLastFMButtons/ and download the zipfile. Now when you try to install, you will probably be prompted to install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1. This version of NET Framework is not available for Vista and 7. I tried Framework 4, no luck. Google was my friend and came up with this Microsoft site.
No comes the tricky part. Install NET 1.1 and ignore all warnings on problems with services probably not working and such.
Install Spotify Last FM Buttons. Start the app and carefully read the instructions you get in a pop up screen. You may wind up with this:
Don’t you love it? Well I do!
BTW No problems so far.
